Teacher CPD
Girls in STEM - Professional Development for Teachers and PME Students
As part of the project a number of approaches to professional development were used to enable participating teachers and PME students to develop a collaborative cross-sectoral and cross-curricular approach to teaching pupils about women in STEM. These approaches were in line with the principles and key skills of both the primary curriculum and the Junior Cycle Framework and also provided all involved the opportunity to shape and guide the development of the project. A combination of CPD days supported by the Professional development Services for Teachers (PDST), in school support, online learning via a MS OneNote digital portfolio and the development of communities of practice all contributed to a varied, productive and effective mechanism of support, sharing and learning for all involved. The main focus of the CPD was to provide guidance and support to empower teacher to employ the methodology of storytelling and the pedagogy of Philosophy for Children (P4C) to enable pupils to explore important issues about the role of women in STEM in a safe and supported environment.
